Lead Software Engineering at AT&T

Role summary

This role combines Technical Product Management, Cloud Architecture, and Software Engineering within AT&T Emerging Products, leading the technical definition and early execution of new platform initiatives across AI, computer vision, IoT, 5G, and energy.

I lead initiatives from early opportunity discovery through production-ready validation, defining product scope, business requirements, technical architecture, cloud infrastructure, engineering standards, and engineering strategy. The role spans customer discovery, executive planning, solution architecture, hands-on engineering, and technical leadership across cross-functional teams and external partners.

My focus is reducing uncertainty before larger engineering investment by validating product feasibility, establishing scalable platform foundations, and translating business opportunities into practical technical direction.

Responsibilities

Solution Architecture (Cloud & Platform)
Own application and platform architecture across frontend, backend, data, cloud infrastructure, deployment, scalability, and cost optimization, collaborating with cloud architecture peers on broader infrastructure strategy.
Technical Leadership & Delivery Ownership
Lead cross-functional engineering teams through sprint planning, technical direction, architecture reviews, code reviews, and delivery recovery, providing hands-on leadership to unblock execution and maintain engineering quality.
End-to-End Product Delivery (Concept to Demo/MVP)
Lead initiatives from concept through demo, POC, or MVP, coordinating product, engineering, and stakeholders.
Multi-Vertical Ownership
Operate across multiple product verticals simultaneously, owning product definition, architecture, and delivery across parallel initiatives.
Product Strategy & Vision
Shape product direction by defining vision and requirements with product owners and stakeholders, translating ambiguous needs into structured product scope.
Roadmap Definition & Planning
Define multi-phase product roadmaps with milestones, sequencing, and exit criteria aligned to business priorities and delivery feasibility.
Opportunity Identification & Market Sizing
Identify early-stage product opportunities and conduct market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM) and use case definition to support leadership evaluation.
Executive Communication & Technical Translation
Write and deliver executive-facing presentations, translating technical architecture and roadmap decisions into business terms; act as the working translation layer between engineering and product/AVP leadership.
Engineering Standards & Infrastructure
Design and implement cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, engineering standards, and reusable platform patterns supporting multiple initiatives.
Full-Stack Prototyping & Feasibility Builds
Build production-grade prototypes across frontend, backend, and infrastructure (e.g., ITS portal, CV demo UI) to validate feasibility and accelerate delivery.
Stakeholder & Partner Discovery
Conduct interviews and working sessions with internal stakeholders, customers, ISVs, and technology partners to validate use cases, requirements, and solution feasibility.
Pilot Candidate Evaluation & Prioritization
Evaluate and prioritize customers, ISVs, and technology partners for pilot programs based on strategic fit, feasibility, and product alignment.
Partner Ecosystem & Cloud Deployment Collaboration
Lead technical evaluation of partner technologies and integrations while collaborating with ISVs, hyperscalers, and cloud architecture peers on deployment readiness and solution feasibility.

Vision AI Platform MVP (Connection Award)

Delivered the AI Video Intelligence platform MVP with no incremental infrastructure budget or added headcount, earning AT&T's Connection Award.

Built a full-stack satellite IoT demonstration platform spanning frontend, backend, AWS infrastructure, and partner integrations, establishing a production-oriented architecture for hybrid connectivity scenarios without additional engineering headcount.

Platform Technical Direction

Took initiative to lead technical direction on a platform project, working with the leadership to define use cases and build a working demo UI.

Backend Platform (cv-backend) Development

Built NestJS backend with PostgreSQL, S3 integration, authentication flows, and production deployment on EKS with observability and health checks.

Multi-Tenant Platform with RBAC and Authentication

Designed and implemented multi-tenant architecture including organization onboarding, RBAC, tenant isolation, identity lifecycle management, invite flows, and Keycloak-based authentication.

Modular Monorepo Consolidation

Restructured the codebase into a modular monorepo, eliminating duplicated code across verticals and reducing setup effort for new product lines.

Terraform CI/CD Automation

Architected and deployed Terraform-based infrastructure, automating a fully manual CI/CD deployment process.

Real-Time Alerting System (Kafka + WebSockets)

Rebuilt live alert pipeline using Kafka consumer, WebSocket routing, deduplication logic, and restored real-time dashboard functionality.

Security Remediation Leadership

Led remediation of cloud security findings by investigating issues, prioritizing fixes, coordinating implementation across engineering teams, and strengthening security controls and CI-based quality enforcement.

Evaluated 6 ISV partners through direct interviews, selecting fits and routing 2 to an adjacent vertical.

Drove the team's execution to deadline through consistent technical direction and unblocking.
